OOC: Just puppet Anthony doing really nothing at the moment. Until Veronica wants to send him a report or whatever you want to do with that. At which time he will thank her and then leave.

Orphanage Playground - Page 2 Empty Re: Orphanage Playground

Veronica didn't believe that for a second... Even countless Veronica-chops didn't help the child "work" on fixing her language, so she highly doubted that it would be kept under control. Regardless, it was something she could potentially look forward to despite her low inclination to believe it. Maybe she had too high of standards, but that's just how she operated, and much like her daughters suspected language problem, it wasn't going away anytime soon.

Ada's question made her hesitate for a moment, but afterwards reached out and placed a hand on the girls head. She suspected it would happen sooner or later, but Veronica had never truly prepared for it. Not out of fear or distress of introducing her daughter into the line of work she did, but she just had never put any real thought into it. So, thinking quickly, she gave a glance toward Father Diem as she spoke to Ada. "Let's save my answer to that for another time. I have something to discuss with Father Diem. We'll talk about it afterwards."

Giving Ada a few headpats, the Nun turned her attention fully to Diem as she approached, taking precautions to make sure Ada and anyone in the general area would be out of earshot when she stepped in front of him. Flipping a small strand of her grey locks out of her face, the nun spoke in a calm and low whisper, but with an obviously serious tone.

"Your suspicions were correct. My investigation proved Vampires were at the church, and while I can't prove they were the ones who burnt it down, it would be a fair assumption to make. However, as I suspected, no vampires were in the area when I arrived. I did find the ashes of several that were killed, so it's likely the fire broke out due to a fight between the lot of them."

Father Anthony saw her coming and got out of earshot with her. He nodded his head gravely and sighed at her answer. Those disgusting beasts had dared to defile a catholic church, and while some had already paid, he could not be sure that there were not others who had escaped the flame. He thanked Veronica and dismissed her, nodding his head and moving to leave. He had calls to make, especially to another vampire hunting organization. A new one he had only found out about recently, something in Great Britain, he was looking forward to this call, or rather he was harboring a deep hope that during this call he would find the leader of this new organization to be wise and reasonable. He also hopped that she would agree to a few of the things he proposed, which would require trust on both sides of the table. Moving back in to his office he picked up his phone and slowly started to dial a number. He didn't expect the person he wanted to talk to, to be answering the phone. But he indeed wanted to set up a meeting with her.

Orphanage Playground - Page 2 Empty Re: Orphanage Playground

Ada sighed as Veronica walked away to go speak to Tony, At least it wasn't the same answer that all the other nuns and priests gave her when she asked that question. Even sister Maya the one sister that was easiest to squeeze information out of or persuade was so adamant about her staying out of the business of Veronica and the few other priests and nuns she'd seen disappearing out of the blue, Each time she'd asked anyone where these people were going they simply answered her question with a bullshit answer of "Focus on your studies." or "It is nothing to concern yourself about." or the fan favorite "It's too dreadfully boring to worry about." If they thought that giving her these answers was making her curiosity die they were wrong.

She frowned at Veronica's back as she walked away and glanced around her for a moment. The yard was nearly empty except for a few children who had chosen to stay outside and play instead of extort cookies from sister Maya. She took a quick glance at her surroundings noting good hiding places before following Veronica at a distance making sure to stay out of sight of both Tony and Veronica which was quite difficult considering she was trying to sneak across an open damn yard. However she managed to do so utilizing the hedges that the gardener had placed around the perimeter of the building for decoration. Luckily for her they also acted as very good cover to hide with. That with the soft dirt around it made it easier to silence her footsteps as well as she moved close enough just to catch bits and pieces of the conversation her aunt and uncle were having.

She tuned her hearing remaining quiet but still could only hear small bits of the conversation.

"Vampires....Church....Killed...Fight." Ada frowned looking down at the ground in confusion "What the hell is she talking about..." Ada muttered softly to herself, She had been expecting some talk about praying or missionary stuff not vampires and killing.

Orphanage Playground - Page 2 Empty Re: Orphanage Playground

Veronica gave a lazy wave as Diem took his departure, being slightly disappointed that the entire reason he had came here to begin with was to send her on a mission any other True Cross agent could have handled. Even a rookie could have pieced together what happened there, so in reality it was a waste of her time. Then again, it did give her something else to do considering she was fairly certain that at least one vampire escaped the fire. She'd track him down soon enough.

The nun was also fully aware of Ada's disappearance behind her, the child's attempt to be stealthy and eavesdropping being rather obvious to her. She wasn't surprised by it, not in the slightest. Veronica had come to expect such things at this point, and it was about time for them to stop. If Ada wanted to know what she did that badly, then why not? She was old enough to begin training.

Veronica glanced over her shoulder toward the hedge, giving an expectant sigh as her hand found a perch on her hip. "You really need to stop this kind of behavior," she said, turning fully to face the hedge and the little girl behind it, "Skulking around and listening in on private conversations are actions unfit for a woman, Ada. It's unsightly." She paused for a moment, giving another small sigh before waving for Ada to follow her across the yard and into the orphanage. Veronica was going to take her to a place only a select few members of the church knew about, and it was located directly under the Orphanage. Luckily, the entrance was extremely well hidden to prevent any stray children from accidentally stumbling upon it. It was the best way to explain the situation. "I suppose I should kill the elephant in the room now rather than later. Let's go have our talk, I've got something to show you."

Ada's mind was still trying to register everything she had heard during the conversation Father Diem and her mother had just had. She could hear Father Diem's footsteps as he left the scene but strangely she couldn't hear the 2nd pair of footsteps that should have been Veronica doing the same. She felt her heart drop into her stomach as she heard Veronica's voice speaking directly to her, "How the hell did she know I was here!?" Ada thought frantically.

She stood trying and failing to remain composed. She looked toward Veronica rubbing the back of her head trying to come up with the words to say to explain herself. "I umm, I just wanted to know what you were talking ab-" She was cut off as Veronica chided her for her behavior. She remained silent as Veronica berated her she waited for Veronica to finish before speaking up again. "I was just wondering why you keep disappearing from the orphanage." Ada muttered, She glanced up as Veronica began to walk away beckoning her to follow.

Ada followed Veronica into the orphanage looking towards the ground as she did so.

----------> Ada's Room

Ada pushed open the front door of the orphanage stepping out into the front yard. The entire yard was empty for the most part. Most of the younger children of the orphanage were likely in Sunday school right about now. And anyone older was either training, attending church or just simply weren't here. She closed her eyes enjoying the feeling of the early morning breeze as it blew across her face. This combined with the warmth of the sun made a good balance.

She glanced about trying to catch any sign of Marcus but her search turned up no results. "Figures." Ada said turning to look up at the clock set over the front door. 10 minutes had passed already technically she'd cut his time down to 10 but she was willing to wait another 5 minutes before she rubbed his lateness in his face. Tucking a hand into the pocket of her jeans she leaned against the fence beside the gate. Her other hand reaching up to grab the ends of her now shoulder length hair. "I need to cut this...It's getting way too long..." Ada muttered before letting the strands of hair fall back into place.

She didn't particularly like her hair to get long she'd had her hair grabbed one too many times during fights to keep it that way. Though maybe she'd wait till Marcus showed up to get a second opinion on the matter. She cast another glance at the clock "If he shows up." Ada said smiling and shaking her head.

Orphanage Playground - Page 2 Empty Re: Orphanage Playground

<---------- Marcus' Room

With some luck, he'd managed to make it this far without running into more than the errant nun and a few straggling kids late for their morning chores. While he wasn't exactly a black sheep, most of the younger children (and to be fair, a number of the adults as well) took care to minimize their time in his presence; he was the man who slept in the "haunted" portion of the complex, and who sometimes could be heard screaming in the late hours of the night (this is true, but only because they had heard if from an adult).

Traipsing through the playground, Marcus is greeted with the sight of his friend playing about with her hair. He'd always liked her dark tresses no matter what the length. There was something almost silken about them, and he'd be lying if he said he'd never made up an excuse to runs his fingers through it.

Hey, he is a (almost) priest. Not dead.

Shuffling up, he linked his arm with hers, and without missing a step began their trek to the coffee house.

"You know, it's beautiful either way. Just don't fuss with it like that. You look like a dork." He barely cracks a smile, and even though his daily gloom had begun to set in, Ada would know he was trying to find levity for her sake.

Ada smiled as she spotted Marcus crossing the yard towards her. She leaned forward moving away from the fence she was leaning against as he came closer. She glanced over his shoulder at the clock above the door. "Your late." Ada said clicking her tongue in mock disapproval. "Haven't you heard? It's rude to make a lady wait." Ada said pointing at the clock over Marcus' shoulder which read that the young man was about a minute late.

She didn't hold onto the subject long though as he paid her a compliment toward her hair. Although barely a small ghost of a blush formed on her cheeks. "S-Shut up it's my hair I'll mess with it if I want to." Ada said as she walked with him. She didn't make any moves to pull her arm away as they walked.

It wasn't very hard for her to notice his bright mood was slowly going down hill. She'd know Marcus long enough to know when he was or wasn't pissed off. And the gloominess that was setting in about him was just something she'd grown used to over the period of time they'd been friends. "C'mon let's go get some coffee into you. You look like you need it." Ada said slipping her hand into his and taking the lead. Having grown up and lived around Rome and the Vatican she knew quite a few shortcuts getting around the city.

He nods only once to her last statement, more of a bare gesture than anything else. Being in her presence felt good, comforting, even if she was a brat at times (to be completely fair, he was too). There were few people in his life he felt comfortable around anymore, and only two of those actually lived close enough to speak with everyday; Ada was half of that equation, and though he was loath to admit it at times, she kept him sane. Much more sane than he would be otherwise.

So when she takes his hand and drags him along, he can't help the feeling of right that comes over him, a feeling he cherishes each time it comes. Not for the first time he thanks God for allowing someone like her into his life, because to be honest, he wasn't so sure he deserved a friend quite like...well, quite like Ada.

Traipsing along behind her, Marcus has little to say. But when he hefts his bag, he feels a vibration in his coat pocket telling him he has a call. Fishing out the small bit of offending tech, he checks the caller ID. Once again, he ignores the call and dumps the phone back in his pocket, hoping Ada had missed the little exchange in her one-woman mission to find the perfect route to coffee.
