Dusk Crusade - TV Tropes Empty Dusk Crusade - TV Tropes

Post by Almos Lorand Fri Sep 19, 2014 3:41 pm

Ladies and gentlemen, I like TV Tropes.org. I LOVE TV Tropes.org. Few things seem to pass the time better than skimming through a character list and reading up on all the little narrative devices that resonate throughout fiction. So I figure why not give it a shot here? That being said, I hate talking about myself (and really now, what fun is it drawing a caricature of yourself?) so I figure I'd play this up as a community game. Pick another member's character and have fun posting their very own tv tropes page here! Let the games begin!

Dusk Crusade - TV Tropes Empty Re: Dusk Crusade - TV Tropes

Post by Almos Lorand Fri Sep 19, 2014 4:02 pm

Doing my best to start things off, I'll try my hand at the one and only Father Tony.  This is a rather brief first shot so if anybody else has anything to add, go for it.

Heroic Build: Just look at that big boy with his muscles and such.

Good Scars, Evil Scars:  Just enough to show he's a manly man without affecting his attractiveness

A Father to His Men: Haven't really seem him do it yet, but the implication is certainly there

Badass => Badass Preacher: Basically a requirement to be in the True Cross

Badass Long Coat: In the form of his cassock

Awesome Mc Cool Name: His gun, Fera Interfector (Beast Slayer)

Holy Hitman: Comes with the territory

Throwing Your Sword Always Works: Thanks to is handy dandy knife-controlling pages

Humble Hero: What with that sin of pride, don't you know.

Kung Fu Jesus: Bordering on a literal example...

Knight Templar: Downplayed, considering his stance on all people being children of God

Nice Guy: Manages to avert the fedora wearing category.

Storm of Blades: When in doubt his go to strategy appears to be throwing knives at it

Sword and Gun: Gun, check. Knife, check. More knife, double check.

Power Fist: Brass knuckles tailor made for punching out vampires.

Barrier Warrior: Through Christ all things are evidently possible, including barriers

Paper Master: Bible pages...so many Bible pages...

Jack-of-All-Trades: He's a marksman, a knife fighter, a martial artist, and an exorcist all in one!

Dusk Crusade - TV Tropes Empty Re: Dusk Crusade - TV Tropes

Post by John Smith Fri Sep 19, 2014 5:37 pm

Characters/Aiden Holmes

  • Ambiguous Disorder: It's not clear what caused Aiden's strange panic attack-like episode in the office. Some theorize that his years of combat have given him PTSD, and it was some sort of violent flashback.

  • Badass Decay: Despite his membership on Night Nine, he fell from "badass" to "weird ass guy" pretty quickly.

  • Catch Phrase: "My ass" has become Aiden's defining statement and trait.

  • Dad the Veteran: Subverted. His mother was in the military, and a non-combat role, too.

  • Elite Army: Part of one.

  • Friendly Sniper

  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: A tiny one above his eye and another on his arm (over a tattoo, no less).

  • Hidden Heart of Gold: Even though he's part of two different military groups whose main task involves wanton murder for morally dubious reasons, he still takes time out of his day to care for his niece.

  • Informed Ability: Unlike the rest of the team who have at least done something, Aiden has yet to display any of Night Nine's trademark superhuman-like physical abilities, or even go on a mission of any kind.

  • Living Legend: The same as the rest of Night Nine.

  • Not So Stoic: Aiden is the most lively and human of the gang, even making it past some of the regular V.W.A.T. members.

  • Older than they Look: For a guy who's almost 40 in a high-stress environement, he's doing pretty good.

  • One-Man Army: Night Nine members are supposed to be better than regular soldiers in every way, so he's worth at least a few guys on his own.

  • Put on a Bus: Ever since his episode in the office, there's been virtually no sign of him in the series so far.

  • Standard Cop Backstory: A fairly generic military setup with a disapproving parent worried for their kid, breezing through bootcamp, and being the perfect soldier. Minor subversion in that, unlike everyone else on Night Nine, nothing particularly traumatic or terrible happened to get him noticed. He was just a good soldier.

  • What, Exactly, is His Job?: Kiera's The Leader, Jensen's The Big Guy, and Zulu's The Lancer, so what the hell does Aiden do? Certainly not The Smart Guy (and probably not The Chick, either). May be Intentional due to how little time he's actually been in action, possibly building up to The Reveal later on.

Dusk Crusade - TV Tropes Empty Re: Dusk Crusade - TV Tropes

And so under the request of a Benevolent Pineapple, I bring thee the character tropes for... VERONICA CORVIS.

  • Scars Are Forever: Gained a few grizzly scars at the hand of a vampiric Samurai, but not without making good on repaying the blood debt tenfold. The scars don't seem to be going away any time soon by some miraculous healing, and has taught Veronica a hard learned lesson she has grown stronger for at that.

  • Church Militant: Comes with the job of being with True Cross.

  • The Hunter

  • He Who Fights Monsters: Veronica has shades of this, it especially doesn't help when she is just as brutal as the monsters she fights, if not more so, with some of their traits subtly manifesting in her persona, such as sadism.

  • Combat Pragmatist: Being a human means she has no room for compromise for such notions as honour or fair play. It's do or die on an active basis for Veronica.

  • Parental Substitute: Notably to Ada Koch, but also to the orphanage she runs.

  • Words Can Break My Bones: Oh yes, very much so. Many supernatural foes learned the hard way that her pages aren't meant for show.

  • Determinator: The word stop isn't in Veronica's dictionary.

  • These Are Things Man Was Not Meant to Know: Veronica is veering quite close to the territory, with her recent curiousity...

  • Conditioned to Accept Horror: Fought supernatural foes of the night? Check. Among whom was an Eldritch Abomination? Check. Reacted with business as usual ideal? Triple check.

  • Knight Templar: Woe betide those that convene as creatures that spurn God and all that is natural, for Veronica is there to make it aptly clear of the consequences, fatally.

  • The Unfettered: And to the letter at that. Unfortunately this may come to bite her back eventually...

  • Good Is Not Nice: Just because she is a nun doesn't mean she won't hesitate to murder you, particularly if you are one that threatens Catholicism's dogma and all that is natural in the world.

  • Blood Lust: There deep inside Veronica lays a hidden fascination she has of blood, pain, and the foreboding schadenfreude that accompanies such, and further the hidden thrills.

The one, the only...GARY STU of VWAT

Meaningful Name: Is that a reference? Nah, that's probably not a reference to anything...at all...ever.

Heroic Build: The tallest and most athletic of the tall athletes and yet the most supple build capable of putting the Black Butler cast to shame.

Anime Hair: You like blue hair? Gary Stu knows you like blue hair, we know you like blue hair, and deep down, you know you like blue hair.

Curtains Match the Window: His turquoise eyes see everything, even stuff that doesn't even exist yet.

Badass in a Nice Suit: Hunting the legions of Satan is no reason to ever be in anything less than your wedding best.

Katanas are just better: What? Are you going to argue this with your fancy facts? Too bad, Nancy Jim, Gary Stu won't let something silly like facts stop him from Omnislashing his way through that mile thick steel door.

Dual wielding: (See above) Just on the off chance that the arm he reserves for beating out a load of justice all over evil get's tired he keeps a spare at the ready. SPOILERS.....it never get's tired.

Dark and Troubled Past: His original team way back in Iraq when he was only a three star general.

Angst? What Angst?: Don't let the violent murder of your team get you down, old chum. Other people taking a savage beating is all part of being a hero! As is listening to Stu's J/K-Pop remix of the Rousing Song of Heroism.

All-Loving Hero: Glares? Insults? Violence and threats? Psha, take two big heaping helpings of Stu and call me in the morning. SPOILER.....you'll be asking for more.

Lead You Can Relate To: Worried that a sniveling, little excuse of a wretch like you isn't good enough to spit shine Stu's handmade Italian dress shoes? WELL YOU'RE RIGHT! But good news, you and Stu might just have one insignificant thing in common. All those mainstream indie cartoons you're watching right now? Stu watches them too....after doing all the animation and half the voice work for them.

Dusk Crusade - TV Tropes Empty Re: Dusk Crusade - TV Tropes

Characters/Brandon Cole

  • The Ace: Usually fills this position on the teams he accompanies into missions.

  • Badass Native: Being both a monster-hunting soldier and Cherokee, he qualifies for this trope by default.

  • Badass Normal: Being a human soldier who fights vampires as a day job, he more than qualifies. Even more so when you consider he uses a bow and arrows.

  • Belligerent Sexual Tension: Though they fit all the hallmarks, he and Eleanor actually subvert this trope by having lots of casual sex on their downtime. So much so, apparently, that he has fond memories of just the scent of her hair.

  • Brilliant, but Lazy: He prefers eating, sleeping, and sex to the majority of his work. Sometimes he hides out on a rooftop to shirk off his duties until the last minute, or until he's finished a nap.

  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Usually through a combination of trickery, technology, and the opponent underestimating a guy with a piece of weaponry from the Dark Ages. Takes out most vampires in rather short order before even they know what hit them.

  • Expy: More than a passing resemblance to Clint Barton and Oliver Queen (especially the white, blond hair, and blue eyed prototype).

  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: While he tends to be pretty cold and jerky, people he's come to have an understanding with know that he's not completely heartless.

  • Man Child Apparently has enough knowledge of Cartoon Network's current show lineup to enjoy both Regular Show and Adventure Time while despising Johnny Test. Who would have thought?

  • Rule of Cool: Bows are, in fact, not standard issue military weaponry.

  • Sitting on the Roof: He can be found slacking there more often than not, usually confronting an uppity group of transfer agents.

  • Tall, Dark, and Handsome

  • Tall, Dark, and Snarky: Delivered an epic burn to Eleanor while simultaneously mocking Johnny Test. It makes sense in context.

  • Trick Arrow: Mostly the exploding kind, but also mixes in some silver dust heads.

  • Vampire Hunter

  • You Gotta Have Blue Hair: Not explicitly, but has a bit of a blue sheen to it in certain lights.

You ready, for a bat bruisin vampire?

(See there for obscure reference https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3B96ctffVp8)

Almos Lorand

Mature Edward~
Eternally gorgeous vampire is not only eternally in the prime of his physical life but just over the cusp of the youthfulness to never be mistaken for a kid.

The less he tries the sexier he is~ Man who never tried to sculpt his body for attractiveness has a body that is sculpted and attractive none the less.

Peasant has a face models would kill for~ Our dashingly young but mature vampire farmer who pulls off sexy without even trying also happens to have a face which comes across as strong, intelligent, well maintained, but leaned back all at the same time.

Disney villan eyes~ Demonic creatures has demonic red eyes to emphasize demonicness

Pretty boy needs a little rugged~ Adorns himself with not just handy dandy extendo fangs but also very stylish tattoo scar things.

Masterwork humility~ Uses shoes that are a knock off brand to prove how little care he has for luxuries, that also somehow function as good as the most expensive and best footwear on the market. Tough water proof and leathery, respectively.

Accessories are for vampires too~ To prove how he can be classy whre he wants yet still be down to earth, he adorns himself with earrings, both simple, but made of gold. Which go just great with that hair.

The less he tries, the better he fights~ Though he has had no training with his only weapon, he can still fight like a kung fu master with his enchanted chain of spikey doom. Bearing not one cooler than frik name name but TWO. The bloodied links, and of course the foreign sounding Enkidnu.

Discount Divine~ Vampires tries to spite God by ripping off his servants abilities and acting like their original. Included but not limited to, UNholy chanting, UNholy barrier of destruction, UNblessing, and UNexorcism.

Bad Buu from DBZ~ Creatures most important and defining personality trait is being pain and loss personified.

Honorably dishonorable~ Vampire who is fine living a life that demands the blood of human beings and spends his life trying to eradicate a deities servants who are commanded by said deity to promote truth charity, and love above all else, is strangely hateful of those who are dishonest.
